Flood Control International recently added double flood gates to an historic bridge as part of the ‘Lower Don Flood Relief Scheme’ in Sheffield, UK.
The flood gates had to integrate with the existing steel plate bridge, and also open ‘up slope’ into the bridge.
Flood Control International’s ‘Lift-Hinged Gates’ were chosen as they could rise when open to store correctly up the slope, and work on dead level thresholds, so that public access was not affected by a slope or ramp.
The central post is fully removable, although there is pedestrian access only over the bridge.
The gate is one of 28 flood gates, flood doors and flood barriers delivered as part of the scheme.
